Introduction

Congratulations! You have just purchased one of the finest sport sedans currently available, the 1987 Shelby Lancer.

The book is intended to be a supplement to the 1987 Dodge Owner's Manual. It follows the same format and only cites those areas which differ from the Dodge Manual. After reading both publications they should be stored in your Shelby Lancer for convenient reference and remain with the vehicle if it is sold.

Your Shelby Lancer is one of 800 cars produced by Shelby Automobiles at our Whittier assembly plant. On its dashboard is a plaque signed by Carroll Shelby with an individual serial number. If your plaque should ever become damaged, contact Shelby Automobiles for a replacement. Please refer to section 5, "Customer Assistance", for our toll free number.

In addition to the other fine accessories normally included in a production Lancer, the Shelby Lancer has the Pioneer Compact Disc Sound System and four wheel disc brakes.

The Pioneer DEX 77 Owner's Manual is location in the glove box. Included in the operating instructions you will find the procedure for programming a personal code number into the DEX 77 memory. This is an anti-theft device. If the system loses battery voltage, it can not be operated unless your secret code is entered on the present buttons. Your Shelby dealer may have entered a code into the system. You should reprogram the unit using a number of your choosing. If the system should require repair, be sure to furnish the code to the service writer to aid the servicing technician.

Be aware that the Pioneer Compact Disc Stereo is only available on a Shelby Lancer. Therefore, if the stereo should require service, Shelby Automobiles strongly recommends you return your Shelby Lancer to a Shelby dealer for proper repairs. Do not attempt to use the stereo before reading the owners manual.

Your Shelby Lancer has been equipped with four wheel disc brakes. The front brakes are the same as normally equipped on a Lancer ES. The rear brakes were specifically designed for Shelby Automobiles for enhanced braking performance.

We at Shelby Automobiles hope you have many miles of driving pleasure in your new Shelby Lancer.

Note: References made throughout your 1987 Shelby Lancer Owner's Manual to the "Dodge Owners Manual" are referring to the 1987 Dodge Lancer and Lancer ES Operating Instructions & Product Information Manual also stored in the glove box.
